5 Things To Do In Dorchester

The Dorchester community is home to a lot of Boston’s cultural makeup. Originally Dorchester was known for the large group of Irish and Polish immigrants who migrated there, but over the years Dorcester has continued to grow in diversity which has led to amazing variety in restaurants, art galleries, museums, and more. Whether you are looking for a good spot for a date night or are hosting guests from out of time, here are some of our favorite places to visit in Dorchester.

Visit the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library

Thousands of American history buffs from across the country come to Dorchester’s JFK Presidential library and museum. The library and museum are comprised of projections, historical artifacts, and even interactive exhibits that make this museum perfect for the whole family. Learn more about John F. Kennedy’s life, speeches, ideals, and ideas through this museum’s carefully curated historical archive.

Tour Castle Island’s Fort Independence

Boston is known for its impact on American history. Which is why Fort Independence in South Boston is the perfect tour stop for anyone interested in learning more about the Revolutionary war. Best of all, tours of Fort Independence are free and hosted by volunteers throughout the summer every weekend. Castle Island is also a beautiful destination perfect for walking and getting a great view of the Boston harbor.

Visit a Nearby Park

Dorchester and South Boston are great for outdoor fun. If you are looking for a spot for an afternoon picnic or you are looking for outdoor entertainment, we recommend you try Dorchester Heights, Joe Moakley Park, or the Lawn on D. All of these locations are perfect for outdoor activities and often host concerts, 4th of July Fireworks, and even projected movie screenings. Check their summer schedules for full lists of weekday and weekend events.

Boston and Dorchester have been seeing an increase in breweries year to year. If you are a beer connoisseur or are just looking to enjoy free samples, we suggest that you take a tour of the Dorchester Brewing Company. They offer weekly tours and daily tastings in their brewery.

50Kitchen Will Officially Be Closing on February 12th

It is with great sadness that we announce that 50Kitchen will be closing its doors this February. This was a difficult decision to make, but a necessary one. We understand that many of our fans will be sad to hear this news, but we would not like to focus on the negatives. Although we are sad that we will soon close our doors, we are grateful for what we were able to do and accomplish in just two years. We hope we can see you at our restaurant before we close, we will be open with our normal hours for the next few weeks.
