The dream behind 50Kitchen was to create a restaurant that epitomized the Dorchester community. From its menu to its staff to its initiatives to its location on Dorchester Avenue, everything about 50Kitchen is designed to reflect the amazing community that surrounds it. From early on Chef Anthony Caldwell had his eyes on starting some initiatives to help those in need in his community. Having only opened a few weeks prior to the beginning of the pandemic, Chef Anthony was ready to find a way to use his gifts and his location to support the community that had supported him.
Common Table: Meals For Those Who Need It
50Kitchen has had a long standing relationship with Commonwealth Kitchen, a restaurant business incubating organization that supports Greater Boston businesses. As a partner, 50Kitchen is one of three restaurants that represent the first wave of this new initiative. Along with Tawakal (East Boston) and Achilitos Taqueria (Jamaica Plain), 50Kitchen has been providing meals to those in need including hospital workers and volunteers that are working on the frontlines to protect our communities. All three restaurants are providing hundreds of premade meals to their communities. These meals are being paid for by the City of Boston to help support the communities and individuals that need the meals the most.
A Win-Win-Win Solution
Thanks to this new initiative, 50Kitchen can continue its mission to provide hope and food to those in need. This situation provides many benefits to all three restaurants, their respective communities, and our city as a whole. 50Kitchen is splitting its time between making these meal kits on weekdays and serving customers their signature southern-asian fusion meals on the weekends. This means an added revenue source for the participating restaurants, access to meals for healthcare workers and the communities hit hardest by the virus, and for customers, a chance to support local restaurants that are serving their community.
Order 50Kitchen Takeout/Delivery
The future is still very uncertain, and our team is grateful to all of the customers and community members that are choosing to shop locally and support small family owned businesses during this time. As we have said from the start, 50Kitchen will always look for ways to bless our community with what we have. As Massachusetts begins to rollout potential phases for reopening, we will continue to provide food for both customers and the community.
